New Musical Irrationals — with Jim Walton — Begins Previews Nov. 6

Broadway veteran Jim Walton, most recently on Broadway in the revival of The Music Man, is part of the cast of the new musical Irrationals, which begins previews Nov. 6 at the American Theatre of Actors.



Featuring music by Edward Thomas and book and lyrics by Old Wicked Songs playwright Jon Marans, the musical about bright and troubled high school students will officially open Nov. 10. Directed by Martin Platt with choreography by Cjay Hardy-Philip, the creative team also includes Bill Clarke (set design), Iracel Rivero (costume design), Jeff Nellis (lighting design) and Shannon Slaton (sound design).

Irrationals, according to production notes, concerns eight New York City high school students who "deal with life, sex, drugs, stolen paintings, origami, the dance at the gym and a difficult new math teacher who brings his own life crisis into theirs." In addition to Walton, the cast of the new musical includes Brandon Michael Arrington, Meredith Kaye Clark, Cicily Daniels, J.D. Goldblatt, Rodney Hicks, Trisha Jeffrey, Nia Jervier, Matt Mundy, Greg Pierce and Pearl Sun.

Jim Walton made his Broadway debut in the original production of 42nd Street. His other Main Stem credits include Perfectly Frank, Merrily We Roll Along, Stardust, Sweeney Todd and The Music Man.

The American Theatre of Actors is located in Manhattan at 314 West 54th Street. Irrationals will play Mondays at 8 PM, Wednesdays-Sundays at 8 PM and Saturdays at 2 PM. Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (212) 696-6738.
