Reeve is departing the production for personal reasons. Her husband, the actor and activist Christopher Reeve, died Oct. 10 at the age of 52. He and Dana Reeve had become vocal international advocates of research and support of spinal-cord injury research since Christopher suffered paralysis in a riding accident.
Brooklyn Boy, by Donald Margulies and directed by Daniel Sullivan, opens Feb. 3, 2005. Dana Reeve had created a role in the fall 2004 world premiere of the play at South Coast Repertory, which is co-producing the world premiere staging with MTC.
"We will miss Dana in the Broadway production, but we understand and respect her decision to prioritize her family at this important time," said Lynne Meadow, artistic director of Manhattan Theatre Club. "We admire her strength and look forward to working with her in the future."
A replacement for Reeve will be announced at a later date.
