Mullally and Manilow to Join "Idol"'s Aiken for TV Christmas Special

By Andrew Gans
26 Nov 2004

Emmy Award winner Megan Mullally, seen on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, will be part of the upcoming NBC holiday program, "A Clay Aiken Christmas."

Mullally, Harmony composer Barry Manilow and gospel singer Yolanda Adams will all be featured on the first solo television special created for "American Idol" star Clay Aiken. "A Clay Aiken Christmas" — executive produced and directed by Louis J. Horvitz — is set to air on NBC-TV Wednesday, Dec. 8 beginning at 8 PM ET; check local listings.

The hour-long program will feature several songs from Aiken's new recording "Merry Christmas with Love." TV viewers can expect to hear such holiday classics as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" as well as the new tune "Happy Holidays."

Best known for her role as Karen on the Emmy-winning NBC series "Will & Grace," Mullally appeared on Broadway opposite Matthew Broderick in the revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and portrayed Marty in the most recent revival of Grease! Her one woman musical, Sweetheart, played a sold-out run in Los Angeles.

Clay Aiken, who was the runner-up during the second season of the "American Idol" competition, has just released his first holiday recording. Titled "Merry Christmas with Love," tracks include "Sleigh Ride," "Mary Did You Know," "The Christmas Song," "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Winter Wonderland," "Silent Night," "Joy to the World," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing"/"O Come All Ye Faithful," "O Holy Night" and "Merry Christmas with Love."
