All I Want For Christmas: Songstress Mariah Carey Planning a Holiday Broadway Show for 2005

While her seasonal "All I Want For Christmas Is You" plays on the radio again and the songstress prepares to headline the ABC's "Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade," Mariah Carey is looking to a Christmas future on Broadway.

The artist reveals her plans for a "Broadway show for Christmas 2005" in a release for the upcoming Christmas Day special airing on ABC-TV at 1 PM (ET.) Check your local listings.

MTV News reports that the project is in its early development, but plans are underway for the singer to "create, produce and star in an annual Christmas musical, according to her label publicist."

Carey rose to fame in the 90's, blending the upper-register trills of her five octave scale into pop hits like "Vision of Love," "Someday" and "I Don't Wanna Cry." Since her 1990 self-titled debut, the singer had hit #1 on the singles charts so many times, her label released a compilation in 1998 titled simply "#1's," featuring over a dozen of her chart-toppers. Carey released her "Merry Christmas" holiday album in 1994 featuring the original song "All I Want For Christmas Is You" which continues to garner airplay during every holiday season — it is currently one of iTunes' top ten most downloaded songs.

Other songs by the diva include "Honey," "Always Be My Baby," "One Sweet Day" (with Boyz II Men), "When You Believe (The Prince of Egypt)" (with Whitney Houston), "Fantasy," "Hero," "Dream Lover" and "Heartbreaker." Her forays into film acting include the features "The Bachelor" and "Glitter."

This December saw holiday shows of two vocalists — both already familiar to the Broadway audiences — with Jekyll & Hyde star Linda Eder's The Holiday Concert and former Into The Woods witch Vanessa Williams' Silver & Gold both at the Palace Theatre.
