| Paul Sorvino in Fiddler on the Roof |
TV, film and stage star Paul Sorvino is Tevye the milkman in Fiddler on the Roof for North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh Jan. 22-30.
Known for tough-guy roles in "Goodfellas," "The Firm," "Nixon," "Dick Tracy" and TV's "Law & Order," Sorvino is also noted for his singing voice and has appeared in operas.
Sorvino was Tony Award nominated for That Championship Season, and had the title role in the original pre-Broadway production of the musical, The Baker's Wife (a recording with members of the tryout company is known to fans of the Stephen Schwartz score).
Fiddler, the beloved musical about changing traditions in a Russian-Jewish town, is currently being seen in a Broadway revival unrelated to the North Carolina run. Harvey Fierstein plays Tevye on Broadway.
The book is by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The 1964 show was based on tales and characters created by Sholom Aleichem.
Greg Ganakas directs. Ken Daigle choreographs.
