Bernadette Peters Launches New Concert Tour — with Gypsy Songs — Jan. 26

By Andrew Gans
26 Jan 2005

Two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters — most recently on Broadway as Momma Rose in Gypsy — launches her new concert tour Jan. 26 at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, FL.

Two songs from Gypsy will bookend her evening: Peters will open with a new arrangement of Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim's "Let Me Entertain You" and will close with one of Rose's show-stoppers. Directed by Richard Jay-Alexander, the concert will also include Peters' renditions of Sondheim's "Being Alive," "Children Will Listen" and "Not a Day Goes By"; Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Some Enchanted Evening" and "This Nearly Was Mine"; and Jerry Herman's "Time Heals Everything." Concertgoers can also expect tunes by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Irving Berlin, among others.

Tour dates currently announced follow:
Jan. 26, 2005 at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, FL
Jan. 27, 2005 at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL
Jan. 30, 2005 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Jan. 31, 2005 at the Philharmonic Center for the Arts in Naples, FL
Feb. 2, 2005 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, FL
March 11-12, 2005 at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA
April 3, 2005 at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA

Oct. 15, 2005 at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Brookville, NY
Oct. 22, 2005 at the Zoellner Performing Arts Center in Bethlehem, PA

Bernadette Peters was last on Broadway in the acclaimed revival of Gypsy, for which she received a 2003 Tony Award nomination for her performance as Momma Rose in the Sam Mendes-directed production. She won her two Tonys for her performances in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song & Dance and Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, and she has also starred on Broadway in Mack & Mabel, On the Town, Sunday in the Park with George, The Goodbye Girl and the original production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods.
