Lainie Kazan, "Survivor"'s Jerry Manthey and "Seinfeld"'s Liz Sheridan to Be Part of V-Day Vagina Monologues Benefit

By Andrew Gans
08 Feb 2005

An all-star reading of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues will be presented Feb. 26 in observance of V-Day West Hollywood 2005.

The evening, which begins at 7 PM with a silent auction, will be held in the Silver Screen Theatre at the Pacific Design Center. The 8 PM performance will feature the talents of Lainie Kazan ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding"), Eve Tamargo Lemus ("Passions"), April Madson ("Quintuplets"), Jerri Manthey ("Survivor"), Liz Sheridan ("Seinfeld") and Rolanda Watts ("Sister Sister"). The reading will be followed by a catered reception with the show's cast.

The Vagina Monologues are just that — solo contemplations on a woman's most intimate body part. Author Eve Ensler interviewed 200 diverse women, including the elderly; African-Americans; and Bosnian rape victims, asking them a myriad of questions from "What do you call your vagina?" to "If your vagina got dressed, what would it wear?" The play has been celebrated for its frank approach to its subject. The show is serious, comic, political, revealing and liberating, observers have said.

This Feb. 26 benefit will raise money and awareness for local organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls. Proceeds will benefit The Fund For Women of Iraq: Under Siege; Jewish Family Services' Family Violence Project; and the National Council of Jewish Women's Women Helping Women program.

The Pacific Design Center's Silver Screen Theatre is located in West Hollywood at 8687 Melrose Avenue. Tickets, priced $30 (general admission) and $25 (seniors), are available by calling (310) 628-6094.
