Marx, Wagner and Heine Meet in The Germans in Paris at New York's 59E59 Theatres

Young men Karl Marx and Richard Wagner encounter German writer Heinrich Heine in Jonathan Leaf's The Germans in Paris which will see a limited engagement in New York.
The Immediate Theater Company production will play March 10-26 at the 59E59 Theatres. Jose Zayas directs.
Set in Paris in 1843, the play — which is loosely based on actual events — imagines two young, politically minded radicals — Marx and Wagner — and their friendship with Germany's most famous living writer, Heine. The three men who eventually splinter off to become two famous artists and one famous revolutionary are explored in the drama.
The cast includes Kevin Kelley, Ali Marsh, Jennifer Don, Corey Moosa, Brian Hoffman, Bruce Barton, Henry Caplan, Paul Siemens and Monica West.
The design team includes Meghan Healey (sets), Maline Casta (costumes), Maria Cristina Fuste (lighting) and Jane Shaw (sound).
Director Zayas has staged Orestes 2.0, I’m With Mauricio (INTAR), The Modern Magic of Ms. Beek (American Living Room Festival), The Maid’s Tragedy (HERE Arts Center) and Me and My Girl (Village Light Opera). The Harvard and Carnegie Mellon alum serves as the artistic director of the Immediate Theater Company.
New York playwright Leaf has also written for The New Yorker, the Weekly Standard and National Review. His works include the novel "The Hope of Future" and the play Pushkin: A Verse Tragedy.
The 95-minute intermissionless The Germans in Paris performs at 59E59 Theatres, 59 East 59th Street (between Park and Madison Ave.). Tickets are on sale by calling (212) 279-4200 or at the box office.
