Under the Bridge, Kathie Lee Gifford and David Pomeranz's new musical that just completed its world premiere run Off-Broadway, will make its regional debut Dec. 1-20 in a production by Orlando Repertory Theatre in Florida.

Chris Jorie, artistic director of the non-Equity company that produces for family audiences, will direct the new musical based on "The Family Under the Bridge," the Newbery Award-honored book by Natalie Savage Carlson.

Book and lyrics are by Gifford, and music is by Pomeranz. Ed Dixon starred in the Off-Broadway run at the Zipper Theatre. The children's book and the musical focus on a Parisian homeless man who takes a family under his wing. He makes his home under a bridge along the Seine.

The Rep is the largest theatre for young audiences in Central Florida and serves more than 20,000 local students each year, in addition to its public shows. The Rep's upcoming 2005-06 season will also include Just So, the new musical by Anthony Drewe and George Stiles (who wrote Honk!) based on "The Just So Stories" by Rudyard Kipling; Salt and Pepper, a play about family, friendship and illiteracy by Jose Cruz Gonzalez that was part of the Kennedy Center’s New Visions/New Voices program; The Miracle Worker, the stirring dramatization of the story of Helen Keller; Sideways Stories from Wayside School, based on the zany classroom antics from Louis Sachar's ("Holes") "Wayside" series; and See Rock City, Arlene Hutton’s follow up to Last Train to Nibroc, about a newly-married Kentucky couple during World War II.

Chris Jorie's directing credits include the regional premieres of Coyote on a Fence, Proof, Spinning Into Butter and Wit for Orlando Theatre Project; The Guys for The Vine Theatre; and A Year With Frog and Toad for Orlando Repertory Theatre.

Paul Lartonoix is executive director of The Rep. Visit www.orlandorep.com.
