Hugh Jackman to Star in Stage-to-Screen "Good"

By Andrew Gans
21 Mar 2005

Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman will star in the silver-screen adaptation of C.P. Taylor's Good.

Variety reports that Jackman will co-star with Jason Isaacs and Romola Garai in the independent film of the late Taylor's play. The motion picture, featuring a screenplay by John Wrathall, will be directed by Lone Scherfig. Filming is expected to begin this summer.

"Good" will be produced by John Palermo and Miriam Segal. The latter told Variety, "The film is not about a hero but an everyman who got caught up in the fervor of nationalism, like 18 million others in Germany did."

Jackman, who will host the 2005 Tony Awards, is also at work on his one-man show Hugh Jackman: In Time, which will premiere April 30 at Las Vegas' new Wynn Hotel.

Hugh Jackman received a Tony Award for his portrayal of the late Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. He received an Olivier Award nomination for his work in the London revival of Oklahoma! and an MO Award for his performance as Joe Gillis in the Australian production of Sunset Boulevard. Jackman's film credits include "The X-Men," "Someone Like You," "Swordfish," "Kate and Leopold" (Golden Globe nomination) and "Van Helsing."

In Good, a German who aspires to be a good man not only joins the Nazi party but becomes the architect of the Holocaust, none of which bodes well for the man's Jewish best friend. The betrayal of the German professor's marriage parallels the abandonment of his former ideals.
