Tony Winner Rupert to Direct York's Leopold & Loeb Musical

By Andrew Gans
31 Mar 2005

Michael Rupert, who won a Tony Award for his performance in the 1986 revival of Sweet Charity, will direct The York Theatre Company's upcoming presentation of Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story.

A spokesperson for the theatre told Playbill.com that Rupert will helm the musical, which begins its run at the York May 16. Casting has yet to be announced for the limited engagement, which will play through June 25.

Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story — concerning the "thrill killers who committed the crime of the century in 1924" — premiered in 2003 as part of the Fourth Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival in New York City. The musical features book, music and lyrics by Stephen Dolginoff; Eugene Gwozdz will be the musical director for the York run.

Michael Rupert won a Tony and a Drama Desk Award for his work in the revival of Sweet Charity. He also received a Tony nomination for his performance in William Finn's Falsettos, and his other Broadway credits include Ragtime, City of Angels, Mail, Shakespeare's Cabaret and Pippin.

The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's is located at 619 Lexington Avenue with the entrance at 54th Street. Visit www.yorktheatre.org for more information.
