Off-Broadway's Hot 'n' Throbbing Will Shutter Two Weeks Early

Hot 'n' Throbbing, the final play in Signature Theatre Company's Off-Broadway season devoted to playwright Paula Vogel, will close April 17, two weeks earlier than expected, a spokesman confirmed.
The production opened March 28, marking the New York premiere of the play about a mom named Charlene (played by Lisa Emery), who writes "erotic screenplays to support her troubled teenage son and daughter while trying to keep her estranged, obsessive husband away from the three of them."
Les Waters directs a company that includes Suli Holum, Elias Koteas, Tom Nelis, Matthew Stadelmann and Rebecca Wisocky.
No reason was given for the early closing. Performances were to continue to May 1 at Signature's home at the Peter Norton Space on West 42nd Street.

Lisa Emery is a veteran of Off-Broadway's Dinner With Friends and Far East and Broadway's The Women, Present Laughter, Jackie, Burn This and Rumors.
The play is billed "as a highly theatrical, surprisingly funny, provocative and potent exploration of sex, power, and violence."
The first two productions of the 2004-05 season were Vogel's The Oldest Profession and The Baltimore Waltz. The writer won the Pulitzer Prize for her play, How I Learned to Drive.
Set design is by Mark Wendland, costume design by Ilona Somogyi, lighting design by Robert Wierzel and sound design by Darron L. West.
