Scoundrels' Bauer and Vibrations' Calvert to Star in York's Thrill Me

By Andrew Gans
12 Apr 2005

From Top: Matt Bauer and Heath Calvert

Casting has been announced for The York Theatre Company's upcoming presentation of Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story.

Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Rupert, Thrill Me will co-star Matt Bauer, currently on Broadway in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Good Vibrations's Heath Calvert. Bauer will play Nathan Leopold and Calvert will be Richard Loeb in the new musical, which is set to begin performances May 16 with an official opening scheduled for May 26. The limited engagement will run through June 25.

Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story premiered in 2003 as part of the Fourth Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival in New York City. The musical features book, music and lyrics by Stephen Dolginoff; Eugene Gwozdz will be the musical director for the York run. The remainder of the creative team comprises James Morgan (set design), Thom Weaver (lighting design) and Jennifer Paar (costume design).

The musical drama, according to production notes, "recounts the chilling tale of the legendary duo who committed one of the most infamous and heinous crimes of the 20th century. Set in 1924 Chicago, it chronicles the events that led childhood friends Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb to forever be remembered as 'the thrill killers.'"

In addition to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Matt Bauer appeared in the recent revival of Gypsy. Heath Calvert's regional credits include Sweeney Todd, Parade, The Secret Garden and Little Shop of Horrors.

Thrill Me will play Monday through Thursday evenings at 8 PM, Friday and Saturday nights at 8:30 PM with matinees on Wednesdays at 2:30 PM and Saturdays at 5 PM. Tickets, priced at $55, are available by calling (212) 868-4444 or by visiting www.smarttix.com.

The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's is located at 619 Lexington Avenue with the entrance at 54th Street. Visit www.yorktheatre.org for more information.
