On Golden Pond Stars Jones and Uggams Enjoy "The View" April 26

By Kenneth Jones
25 Apr 2005

James Earl Jones and Leslie Uggams, the Tony Award-winning stars of the new Broadway production of On Golden Pond will appear together on TV's "The View" with Barbara Walters and her co-hosts April 26.

"The View" airs nationally and is broadcast in the New York City area on WABC-TV (Channel 7) from 11 AM-noon. Check local listings for time and channel in your area.

Jones won the Tony Award for The Great White Hope and Fences. Uggams won for her work in Hallelujah, Baby!

Written by Ernest Thompson (who won an Academy Award for adapting his play into the screenplay for the hit film), On Golden Pond is directed by Leonard Foglia and plays at The Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street).

This is the first major U.S. production of Thompson's play to feature African-American performers playing the family. According to director, Foglia, rewrites were made by the playwright, who drew on various versions of the text that have appeared over the years (but there are no specific references to black culture in the rewrite).
