PHOTO CALL: The Drama Desk Gathers Their Nominees for a Cocktail Reception

By Morgan Allen
04 May 2005

From Top: Sutton Foster and Christian Borle; Billy Crystal and Sherie Rene Scott

It’s the time of year in the theatre when stars of major productions can be seen at various cocktail parties and fancy dinners throughout Manhattan on an almost nightly basis. May 3 was no different, as the best and the brightest came together to celebrate the nominees for this year’s Drama Desk Awards at the Arte Café.

The Drama Desk Awards honor both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions in the same categories and are usually looked upon as a good indication of who will be nominated that year for the theatre’s highest honor – the American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards.

At left, nominees Sutton Foster (Little Women), Christian Borle (Spamalot), Billy Crystal (700 Sundays) and Sherie Rene Scott (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), can be seen above Doubt stars and playwright Brian F. O'Byrne, Adriane Lenox and John Patrick Shanley. The reception for the nominees for the 2005 Drama Desk Awards was held at the Arte Café on West 73rd street in New York City.

A complete list of the nominees can be found here.
