Sam Waterston and Broadway veterans Tom Hewitt, Don Stephenson and Isabel Keating star in Long Wharf Theatre's staging of Tom Stoppard's Travesties, which opens May 11.

Gregory Boyd directs the Tony Award-winning comedy which began at the New Haven, Connecticut company's C. Newton Schenck Mainstage May 4 and play through June 5.

Travesties, set in 1974 (and 1917 in flashback) in Zurich, Switzerland, is filled with real-life characters including writer James Joyce, artist Tristan Tzara and revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Lenin) whose lives are connected when the show's narrator, British consul official Henry Wilfred Carr, recalls performing in an amateur production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.

Waterston takes on the role of Carr opposite Tom Hewitt (The Rocky Horror Show, Dracula) as Tzara, Don Stephenson (The Producers) as James Joyce and Gregor Paslawsky (Long Wharf's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) as Lenin. Isabel Keating (The Boy From Oz, Enchanted April) is also featured in the cast as Nadya with Graeme Malcolm (Aida) as Bennett, Maggie Lacey (Our Town) as Cecily and Cheryl Lynn Bowers (The Underpants) as Gwendolyn.

"Law and Order" regular Waterston appeared on stage last summer in The Public Theater's staging of Much Ado About Nothing. Other Broadway credits include Abe Lincoln in Illinois, A Walk in the Woods, Benefactors, Lunch Hour, Hamlet, A Doll's House, Much Ado About Nothing, The Trial of the Catonsville Nine, Hay Fever, Indians, Halfway Up the Tree and Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung Up in the Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad. His film credits include "Crimes and Misdemeanors," "Hannah and Her Sisters," "The Great Gatsby" and "Serial Mom."

The Travesties design team features Neil Patel (sets), Judith Dolan (costumes), Rui Rita (lighting) and John Gromada (sound). Marlo Hunter provides choreography.

Stoppard has also penned the plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, The Real Inspector Hound, After Magritte, Jumpers, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, Night and Day, The Real Thing, Hapgood, Arcadia, India Ink and The Invention of Love. His trilogy, The Coast of Utopia (Voyage, Shipwreck, and Salvage) debuted at the Royal National Theatre and will play stateside at Lincoln Center Theatre in the fall of 2006.

Tickets for Travesties at Long Wharf Theatre, 222 Sargent Drive in New Haven, CT are available by calling (203) 787-4282 or toll-free (800) 782-8497. For more information, visit the website at www.longwharf.org.
