Yiddish Stage Legend Mina Bern Tells Life Story May 22

By Robert Simonson
22 May 2005

On May 22, the Folksbiene Yiddish Theatre will present the legendary actress Mina Bern in her one-woman stage memoir, Mina Bern: A Life on the Stage, A Personal Memoir Told in Song and Story at the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street.

Mina Bern won an Obie Award for her performance in Folksbiene's production of Sweet Dreams in 1999. Other Folksbiene productions include An American Family and Yentl. Bern was a star in her native Poland, then in Russia and then in Israel at its founding, before coming to New York in 1949. In the late '60s and early '70s, she appeared on Broadway in shows like Light, Lively and Yiddish, Sing, Israel, Sing, and Let's Sing Yiddish.

To order tickets, which are $18, call (800) 994-3347, or visit the Folksbiene on the Web at www.folksbiene.org.
