Producers told the cast of Little Women the Musical May 17 that the production at Broadway's Virginia Theatre would close May 22 after 55 previews and 137 performances.

The musical based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, with book by Allan Knee, music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, earned one 2005 Tony Award nomination for Sutton Foster's leading performance as Jo.

Maureen McGovern plays Marmee, and has been announced to star in a national tour being produced by Ken Gentry, with the Broadway producers.

The Broadway cast includes Amy McAlexander, Megan McGinnis, Jenny Powers, Janet Carroll, Danny Gurwin, John Hickock, Jim Weitzer and Robert Stattel. Susan H. Schulman directs.

Remaining performances are Wednesday at 2 PM and 8 PM, special matinee on Thursday at 2 PM, Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 2 PM and 8 PM and Sunday at 3 PM. Tickets are available through Telecharge.com at (212) 239-6200.

A cast album on the Ghostlight label is in stores now.
