Cast Set for Adam Bock's Swimming in the Shallows in Second Stage's Uptown

By Ernio Hernandez
24 May 2005

Logan Marshall-Green — of television's "The O.C." and "24" — will appear in Adam Bock's Swimming in the Shallows for Second Stage Theatre Uptown.

Two works will play at the company's uptown home McGinn/Cazale Theatre (located above The Promenade Theatre) this summer, each for a four-week run. Swimming in the Shallows runs June 21-July 17 while Dan O'Brien's The Dear Boy is slated for Aug. 1-27.

Trip Cullman (The Last Sunday in June) directs the Bock comedy in which a "group of friends question the commitments of their eclectic love lives" as one man finds love at a local aquarium.

Michael Arden (Big River, Bare), Rosemarie DeWitt (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea), Marshall-Green (The Distance From Here), Mary Schultz (Little Egypt, Slavs!) and Murphy Geyer (Art - Cleveland Play House, "The Sopranos," "Oz") will star in the first work. No casting for The Dear Boy has been announced yet.

Michael John Garcés (The Triple Happiness, Finer Noble Gases) will stage The Dear Boy, about an English teacher on the verge of retirement "questions the life he didn't live [when] unexpected encounters with two students help him realize who he is and what he has accomplished."

The Uptown series debuted with three American plays — Joe Calarco's ...in the absence of spring..., Wendy Kesselman's The Notebook (directed by Evan Yionoulis) and Hunt Holman's Spanish Girl (dir. Erica Schmidt). The program returned last summer following renovations at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's The Mystery Plays starring Gaving Creel and Brooke Berman's The Triple Happiness with Ally Sheedy.

Tickets to Second Stage Uptown at the McGinn/Cazale, Broadway and 76 Street, will be available by calling (212) 246-4422 or at the Second Stage box office at 307 West 43 Street. Two-play subscriptions are available for $50. For more information, visit www.SecondStageTheatre.com.
