David Marshall Grant's Pen to Find a Blank Slate at Playwrights Horizons in Spring 2006

By Kenneth Jones
01 Jun 2005

David Marshall Grant's new play, Pen, will get its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons in spring 2006 under the direction of Will Frears, Playbill.com has learned.

Pen has been presented in readings, including one by Boston's Huntington Theatre Company, which billed the work this way: "Adam, trapped in a web of familial dysfunction, longs for the freedom that college might bring. A pilfered pen becomes the unlikely catalyst he and his family need to see the world from each others' perspective."

J. Smith Cameron of Broadway's After the Night and the Music told Playbill's Harry Haun that she will be appearing in Pen at Playwrights Horizons. Frears staged Off-Broadway's Omnium Gatherum and Terrorism.

David Marshall Grant, who is also a respected actor (Angels in America), wrote the Off-Broadway play Snakebit, later seen in productions by resident theatres around the country.

His second play, Current Events, premiered at Manhattan Theatre Club. As an actor he has starred on Broadway in Bent, The Survivor, Angels in America (Drama Desk and Tony Award nominations) and The Three Sisters. Other New York acting credits include James Lapine's Table Settings, Aaron Sorkin's Making Movies, The Tempest in Central Park, and most recently the revival of Paula Vogel's Baltimore Waltz.

Playwrights Horizons presents works at its Mainstage and Peter Sharp Theater on West 42nd Street. Visit www.playwrightshorizons.org.
