Debra Monk and Christopher Durang Start Laughing Wild in Boston, June 3

Debra Monk and Christopher Durang star in a special production of the playwright's 1987 comedy, Laughing Wild, at Boston's Huntington Theatre Company.

Huntington artistic director Nicholas Martin stages the work for his Massachusetts company at the Virginia Wimberly Theatre at Boston Center for the Arts' Stanford Calderwood Pavilion, June 3-26.

The two-person show originally played at Playwrights Horizons in New York in October 1987, with Durang starring opposite E. Katherine Kerr, and was revived with the original stars in 2003. Divided into three parts, Laughing Wild features two comedic monologues delivered by its "Man" and "Woman" that delve into "often-touchy social issues" followed by a final scene in which both players "reenact a troubling grocery store incident, to recount and appear in each other’s dreams, and to participate in a psychotic TV talk show," according to a release.

Director Martin, who staged Durang's Betty's Summer Vacation to OBIE Award success at Playwrights Horizons in 1999, directed the Broadway staging of Match by Stephen Belber as well as Butley, Springtime for Henry, A Month in the Country, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Hedda Gabler, Fully Committed and Dead End.

Monk, who appeared in this season's Broadway revival of Reckless, earned a Tony Award for her turn in Lanford Wilson's Redwood Curtain. She has also appeared in Thou Shalt Not, Ah, Wilderness!, Company, Picnic, Steel Pier, Nick & Nora, Prelude to a Kiss and the original Off-Broadway cast of Assassins. She also co-creator and starred in the musical, Pump Boys and Dinettes.

Durang is best known as the playwright who penned such works as Beyond Therapy, Baby With the Bathwater, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Sex and Longing and The Actor's Nightmare. Recent works include Adrift in Macao, Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge and Miss Witherspoon — which will play at Playwrights Horizons next season.

Tickets for Laughing Wild at the Calderwood Pavilion, 527 Tremont Street in Boston, MA are available by calling (617) 266-0800. For more information on the Huntington Theatre Company, visit www.huntingtontheatre.org.
