Finn's Falsettos, Spelling Bee Alum Honor Composer at Second Stage Benefit Concert, June 6

By Ernio Hernandez
02 Jun 2005

Original Falsettos cast members Michael Rupert, Carolee Carmello, and Chip Zien along with Alison Fraser, Mary Testa and Stephen DeRosa will salute composer William Finn with cast members from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at a benefit concert, June 6.

Second Stage Theatre presents the Gala Benefit evening honoring William Finn in the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center Studios. Proceeds from the event will benefit the theatre company’s educational and artistic programs.

Directed by Lonny Price, the concert will feature musical highlights from Finn’s career, including songs from his Tony Award-winning Falsettos, as well as Elegies, A New Brain and his current Tony-nominated musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Second Stage Theatre presented the composer's latest work at their midtown home earlier this year as well as his early success, In Trousers, Off-Broadway in 1981.

Performers — who have collaborated with the music man — will include Carolee Carmello (Falsettos), Stephen DeRosa (Infinite Joy: The Songs of William Finn), Alison Fraser (March of the Falsettos, In Trousers), Michael Rupert (March of the Falsettos, Falsettoland), Mary Testa (A New Brain, In Trousers), Chip Zien (March of the Falsettos, Falsettoland) with Spelling Bee's Derrick Baskin, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lisa Howard, Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Jose Llana.

Cocktails will be served starting at 7 PM followed by dinner. The concert begins at 8:30 PM.

Concert-only tickets are available for $150 and can be purchased by calling (212) 787 8302, ext. 111. Tickets for the full evening, including dinner and cocktails, are available for $3,000, $1,000; and tables of 10 for $50,000, $25,000, and $10,000.
