Hensley, Hopkins, Hart Hitch Up to Off-Broadway's Upcoming The Great American Trailer Park Musical

| photo by Aubrey Reuben | The Great American Trailer Park Musical will return to New York at Off Broadway's Dodger Stages Aug. 20 with Shuler Hensley, Kaitlin Hopkins, Linda Hart and more in tow.
Producers Jean Doumanian (Democracy) and Jeffrey Richards (Glengarry Glen Ross) will team to present the work seen last summer at The New York Musical Theatre Festival to tentatively reopen in the new Off-Broadway venue Sept. 15, according to production spokespersons.
Featuring music and lyrics by David Nehls with a book by Betsy Kelso (who also directs the show), the country-rock and blues musical centers around "an agoraphobic housewife who must tear herself away from Dr. Phil long enough to leave her trailer and save her marriage," according to production notes from the previous run. "Why the sudden fuss after being safely tucked away for nearly 20 years? Armadillo Acres' newest tenant — a hot, young stripper with an questionable agenda. With guidance from a trailer-trash style Greek Chorus (three local women with phobias, neurosis and hang-ups of their own), the story unfolds."
The new cast of The Great American Trailer Park Musical will include Tony Award winner Shuler Hensley (Oklahoma, "Van Helsing"), Linda Hart (Hairspray, Anything Goes), Kaitlin Hopkins (Bat Boy, Noises Off, Bare), Leslie Kritzer (Hairspray, Bat Boy), Wayne Wilcox (A Man of No Importance, The Light in the Piazza) and original cast member Marya Grandy.
The design team will feature Derek McLane (sets) and Donald Holder (lighting). More creative team and casting are yet to be announced.
The new musical will join Dodger Stages current tenants Altar Boyz (which also originated at the New York Musical Theatre Festival), Drumstruck and The Musical of Musicals — The Musical! which are slated to play throughout the summer on stages 4, 2 and 5, respectively.
