Sisto, Scott and Van Patten Reach Dead End for Upcoming Los Angeles Show

By Ernio Hernandez
24 Jun 2005

Jeremy Sisto, Tom Everett Scott and Joyce Van Patten will appear in the upcoming Center Theatre Group staging of Dead End at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theater reports The Hartford Courant.

Nicholas Martin (Match, Betty's Summer Vacation) will stage the work for the California company for a Aug. 28-Oct. 16 run.

The rarely produced 1935 Kingsley drama is set in Depression-era Manhattan where a gang of youngsters known as the Dead End Kids rule the streets until they are challenged by their wealthy neighbors. An earlier revival played CTG artistic director Michael Ritchie's former stomping grounds, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and later ran at Martin's Boston homestage, the Huntington Theatre Company.

The Connecticut daily reports that Sisto ("Six Feet Under," Geffen's Take Me Out), Scott ("That Thing You Do," TouchOff-Broadway) and Van Patten (Jake's Women, Brighton Beach Memoirs) will lead a cast that will also include Sarah Hudnut ("E.R.") and Kathryn Hahn ("Crossing Jordan"). Production spokespersons could not confirm any casting at press time.

Director Martin, who staged Durang's Betty's Summer Vacation to Obie Award success at Playwrights Horizons in 1999, also directed the Broadway staging of Match by Stephen Belber. Other credits include Butley, Springtime for Henry, A Month in the Country, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Hedda Gabler, Fully Committed and Dead End.

The new season at CTG's Ahmanson will launch with Sidney Kingsley's Dead End (Aug. 28-Oct. 16) then continue with Greg Morrison, Lisa Lambert, Bob Martin and Don McKellar's new musical The Drowsy Chaperone (Nov. 8-Dec. 24) before The Importance of Being Earnest, starring Lynn Redgrave, plays (Jan. 17-March 5, 2006). Next up will be the special events Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake (March 8-19, 2006) and Dame Edna: Back With A Vengeance (March 28-April 9, 2006) as well as Robert Wilson, Tom Waits and William S. Burroughs' The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets (April 22-June 11, 2006) and a new pre-Broadway musical to be announced.

Subscriptions are currently available for the season at the Ahmanson, 135 North Grand Ave. in Los Angeles, CA, by calling (213) 628-2772 or visit www.TaperAhmanson.com.
