Dan Castellaneta Stars as "Gone With The Wind" Producer in Old Globe Moonlight and Magnolias

San Diego's Old Globe prepares for its upcoming staging of Ron Hutchinson's behind-the-scenes of "Gone With The Wind" drama Moonlight and Magnolias starring Dan Castellaneta under the direction of John Rando.

The show will perform in the Old Globe Theatre July 16-August 14 with an official opening July 21.

Moonlight and Magnolias finds its setting in 1939 Hollywood as big-time movie producer David O. Selznick shuts down production on the epic movie "Gone With the Wind" and locks himself, screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming – taken from "The Wizard of Oz" set – in his office to rewrite the script. The three film icons battle over every detail of the adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel for seven days.

The Old Globe cast includes Dan Castellaneta ("The Simpsons," The Alchemist) as Selznick, Tom McGowan (Rounding Third - Globe, Chicago) as Fleming and David Manis (Loves and Hours - Globe, The Rivals) as Hecht.

Castellaneta and Rando also collaborated in the same actor-director dynamic for last year's Geffen Playhouse staging of Steve Martin's The Underpants. The new Hutchinson play, previously seen at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago, recently played its New York debut at Manhattan Theatre Club's Off-Broadway space.

Rando has directed past Old Globe summer presentations of The Taming of the Shrew, Midsummer Night's Dream and last year's musical Lucky Duck. He garnered his Tony for his work on the Broadway musical Urinetown. Other credits include The Dinner Party, A Thousand Clowns and Polish Joke.

The Globe will also present a free screening of "Gone With The Wind," July 18 at 7 PM in the Old Globe Theatre to coincide with this production following a 6 PM Moonlight and Magnolias "Insights Seminar" discussion with the show’s creative team.

The design team features Alexander Dodge (scenic), Robert Morgan (costumes), Phil Monat (lighting) and Paul Peterson (sound). Lisa Porter serves as stage manager.

For tickets to Moonlight and Magnolias, at The Old Globe in San Diego's Balboa Park are available by calling (619) 23-GLOBE (234-5623) or visit www.theoldglobe.org.
