North Shore Cancels Run of Cinderella After Fire, But Show Will Rise From Cinders in 2006

North Shore Music Theatre announced July 15 that due to heat, smoke and water damage caused by a July 14 fire the current production of Cinderella will close and be rescheduled for summer 2006.

The revival of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical was originally to run through July 31 at the Beverly, MA, institution.

"While we continue to assess the damage, we plan to re-open the theatre on Aug. 23 with the new musical Abyssinia," according to a statement. "The cause of the fire, which occurred after 11 PM July 14 when the building was empty, was determined to be an accidental electrical malfunction that occurred underneath the stage surface. The fire spread rapidly through the orchestra pit but was rapidly contained by the tremendous efforts of the Beverly Fire Department and surrounding fire departments."

The following concerts will be moved to future dates (exact dates to be determined):

  • ABBA Gold on August 6
  • Engelbert Humperdinck on Aug. 10
  • Kenny Rogers on Aug. 11
  • Charlie Daniels Band on Aug. 13
  • The Beach Boys on Aug. 14

    The following Children's Summer Musicals will be either rescheduled or cancelled:

  • Rapunzel on July 22
  • Super Scientific Circus on July 29
  • Peter and the Wolf on Aug. 12

    All Summer Stages programs and workshops for children will continue to operate at North Shore Music Theatre in the Theatre Arts Academy building.
