Sold! Tony Winner Glengarry Glen Ross Recoups Broadway Investment; London, Tour Next

By Ernio Hernandez
28 Jul 2005

Broadway's Tony Award-winning revival Glengarry Glen Ross celebrated its 100th performance and recouped its initial investment July 27, according to producers.

Joe Mantello (Assassins, Take Me Out) directs the new revival of the David Mamet work which began previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre April 8 and opened May 1 for a limited engagement through Aug. 28.

The producers have also announced plans for a limited engagement in London in 2006 and a national tour to follow in the 2006-2007 season.

Glengarry Glen Ross follows the cutthroat world of real estate where salesmen are vying for the best leads to make the biggest sales. The drama is known both for its concise rhythms and its terse and often blue language. As actor Alda jokingly understates, "You may be surprised to know there are some very bad words in it."

(For more from the entire cast, visit Playbill.com's "Meet the Salesmen" feature.)

The men who populate the new Broadway cast include the production's Tony Award winner Liev Schreiber (Henry V, "Scream") as flashy hotshot Richard Roma opposite Alan Alda (QED, "M*A*S*H") as the flailing Shelly Levene, Jeffrey Tambor (Sly Fox, "Arrested Development") as meek George Aaronow, Gordon Clapp ("NYPD Blue," "Moonlight Mile") as hot-tempered Dave Moss, Tom Wopat (Annie Get Your Gun, "The Dukes of Hazzard") as the sales pigeon James Lingk, Frederick Weller (Take Me Out, "The Shape of Things") as hard-nosed office manager John Williamson and Jordan Lage (The Best Man, "The Spanish Prisoner") as the detective Baylen.

Glengarry Glen Ross performs at Broadway's Jacobs Theatre, located at 242 West 45th Street.
