Unexpected Songs: "Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall (The Rest of It)" Hits Stores Aug. 2

"Sondheim, Etc., Etc.—Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall (The Rest of It)" hits stores on the Angel Records label Aug. 2.

The 12-track disc features all the tunes from the Tony Award winner's December 9, 1996, solo Carnegie Hall debut concert that weren't featured on the initial, Grammy-nominated live recording,"Sondheim Etc.: Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall." The new CD also features Peters' in-between song patter.

About her Carnegie evening and her new recording, actress-singer Peters said in a statement, "It was one of the most exciting, perfect evenings of my life. Knowing it was my solo debut at Carnegie Hall and looking out at the audience and knowing that we were all there to raise money for Gay Men's Health Crisis made the evening an extraordinary experience.

"We covered a lot of musical territory that night, and when we were putting together the initial recording in 1997, we faced many difficult decisions regarding which numbers would be included since we were limited to one single compact disc. Over the years, people have asked when — and if — songs from the rest of the evening would be released. When I asked Bruce Lundvall at Angel Records about the possibility of issuing the previously unreleased material on a second album, he immediately said, 'Let's do it!' I'm so happy people can now enjoy 'Children Will Listen' and other memorable moments from that spectacular evening, and I'm grateful that they won't be lost somewhere in the years to come or doled out as bonus tracks elsewhere."

The complete track listing for "Sondheim, Etc., Etc.—Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall (The Rest of It)" follows:
Overture
"We're in the Money"/"Pennies from Heaven"
"If You Were the Only Boy"
"Unexpected Song"
"Faithless Love"
"Other Lady"
"I Never Thought I'd Break"
"(They Ask Me Why) I Believe in You"
"Later"
"With So Little to Be Sure Of"
"Children Will Listen"
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

The concert featured musical direction by Marvin Laird, who penned the Overture for the evening. The new CD is produced by Jay Landers and executive-produced by Richard Jay-Alexander (the concert's director) and Bruce Lundvall. Chris Tergesen co-produced and mixed the new CD.

Bernadette Peters was last on Broadway in the acclaimed revival of Gypsy, for which she received a 2003 Tony Award nomination for her performance as Momma Rose in the Sam Mendes-directed production. She won her two Tonys for her performances in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song & Dance and Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, and she has also starred on Broadway in Mack & Mabel, On the Town, Sunday in the Park with George, The Goodbye Girl and the original production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods.
