Edna St. Vincent Headlines the Fringe Festival

Edna St. Vincent Millay Speaks to the Committee on Immortality a one-woman show about the controversial Jazz Age poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, will premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival Aug. 13.
Written and performed by Jennifer Gibbs, one of the many playwrights involved with the Transport Group's production of The Audience, the play channels the spirit of Edna St. Vincent Millay, one of the most seductive and ferocious American figures of the early twentieth century.
She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer for poetry, but America seems to have now forgotten her. A sexual revolutionary known for being the center of Greenwich Village bohemia in addition to her poems, she was both beloved and notorious. At the height of her popularity, she performed to full arenas across the country.
Traveling in and out of different episodes from her life, the play forces Millay to confront the question at the core of her existence: how can she prevent her poems from eating her alive? According to Jennifer Gibbs, the play is a metaphor about how we keep going, and what we sacrifice to do so.
