Christiane Noll Is Camille in Staged Reading of New Musical

By Andrew Gans
07 Sep 2005

Former Jekyll & Hyde star Christiane Noll will star in the title role of two staged readings of the new musical Camille Oct. 1 at the 45th Street Theatre.

Part of the New York Musical Festival, the readings will be directed by Renato Biribin Jr. with musical direction by Julia Gregory. The musical, based on Alexandre Dumas fil's La Dame Aux Camelias, features music, lyrics and adaptation by Gregory with additional libretto by Biribin. Readings are scheduled for 1 and 4:30 PM.

Joining Noll onstage will be Andre Solomon Glover as Jacques Duval, Mark Ledbetter as Armand Duval, William Thomas Evans as Baron Varville, Diana Brownstone as Prudence, Daniel Guzman as Gaston and Sylvia Rhyne as Julie. The ensemble comprises Jamie LaVerdiere, Roland Rusinek, Rommy Sandhu, Christopher Yongsman, Ellery Beggs, Amber Dow, Carrie Frymer, Nikka Lanzarone, Whitney Vigil, Emily Garcia and Tracy J. Wholf.

Camille, according to production notes, concerns the life of "Marguerite Gautier, also known as Camille, a French courtesan, who learns the true meaning of love in her last months of life. Set in Paris in 1875, this timeless story of love and forgiveness, explores Marguerite’s discovery of true love as she is dying. Like the sweeping Les Miz and the passionate Romeo and Juliet, the star-crossed lovers come together only to be split apart by the conventions of society."

Christiane Noll, who was part of the recent out-of-town tryout of The Mambo Kings, made her Broadway debut as Emma Carew in Frank Wildhorn's Jekyll & Hyde. She later joined the Broadway company of It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues and starred in the City Center Encores! production of Out of This World. Noll appeared in the national tours of Grease!, Miss Saigon and City of Angels, and she has recorded three solo albums: "Christiane Noll — A Broadway Love Story" (Varese Sarabande Records), "Live at the Westbank Café," (Car-Jam Records) and "The Ira Gershwin Album" (Fynsworth Alley).

The 45th Street Theatre is located in Manhattan at 354 West 45th Street. Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (212) 352-3101 or by visiting www.nymf.org.
