A new musical about the computer and software revolution, with Bill Gates and Steve Jobs as center-stage characters, is a sold-out hit even before its first performance Sept. 20 as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF).

The eight-performance run of Nerds://A Musical Software Satire, written by composer Hal Goldberg and lyricist-librettists Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner, was popular enough to prompt the producers to add two performances at the Beckett Theatre in Theatre Row on 42nd Street. The added shows also sold out.

The Nerds playing schedule is Sept. 20 at 8 PM, Sept. 22 at 8 PM, Sept. 23 at 1 PM, Sept. 24 at 8 PM, Sept. 25 at 8 PM, Sept. 28 at 1 PM, Sept. 29 at 4:30 PM, Sept. 30 at 8 PM and Oct. 1 at 1 PM and 4:30 PM.

Allen-Dutton and Weiner co-wrote Off-Broadway's hip-hop-flavored Bomb-itty of Errors, a fresh take on Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors.

Andy Goldberg (Bomb-itty of Errors) directs the production, with choreography by Dan Knechtges (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).

The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Sharon Fallon, Vicki Halmos and Matt Wolf present Nerds://, which includes the colon and forward slashes (typical of a URL) as part of its title.

Nerds "is an outrageous epic take on the parallel stories of computer pioneers Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, two technological geniuses, as they blaze a path from 'garage inventors' to warring titans of the computer revolution," according to the producers.

The Nerds cast includes Sean Dugan as Bill Gates, Jeremy Ellison-Gladstone as Paul Allen, Anthony Holds as Steve Jobs, Todd A. Horman as Patterson, Thadd Krueger as Woz, Trisha Rapier as Myrtle, William Selby as Watson and Jessica-Snow Wilson as Sally.

Musical direction is by Nadia DiGiallonardo. The creative team includes scenic designer Shoko Kambara, costume designer Alejo Vietti and Kimberly Glennon, lighting designer Jason Lyons, sound designer Ken Travis and projection designer Kevin R. Frech.

The musical numbers include "Homebrew Computer Club," "I Am Just a Nerd," "Big Blue, "The Revolution Starts with One," "Stroll Through the PARC," "Macintosh," "Nerd. Action," "I Always Thought," "Secrets," "Windows," "Nobody's Got It Worse Than Me," "Let's Merge," "Thinketh Different," "I've Gotta Lotta Money," "We Are All Just Nerds."
