"Star Trek" Veteran Is Star of Shenandoah at Ford's Theatre in 2006

Film, stage and TV star Scott Bakula will play the passionate patriarch of the musical Shenandoah when it appears at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., in 2006.
The musical about a Virginia man and his family in Civil War times won the Tony for Best Book and a Tony actor John Cullum, whose role Bakula is now assuming. The Ford's staging plays March 17-May 21 under the direction of Jeff director-choreographer Calhoun, who staged Ford's and Broadway's recent Big River revival.
Shenandoah is about Charlie Anderson, the family patriarch, "who tries to keep the Civil War at bay and his family safe as the battle spreads and threatens their very existence."
Bakula is best known for his work in the "Star Trek" series "Enterprise" and "Quantum Leap," for which he earned a Golden Globe for best actor and four Emmy nominations. He made his Broadway debut as Joe DiMaggio in Marilyn: An American Fable and received a Tony nomination for his starring role in Romance Romance.
Shenandoah is based on the movie of the same title that featured James Stewart, and ran more than 1,000 performances on Broadway starting in 1975 (during the Vietnam War). The book is by James Lee Barrett, Peter Udell and Philip Rose, with music by Gary Geld and lyrics by Peter Udell.
