Heche, Macy, Balaban, Elizondo, Groener, O’Neill, Sisto and Stoltz To Star in L.A.T.W. New Season

Anne Heche, William H. Macy, James Cromwell, Edward Asner, Bob Balaban, Hector Elizondo, Robert Foxworth, Sharon Gless, Harry Groener, Ed O’Neill, Jeremy Sisto and Eric Stoltz will appear in the upcoming 10-play season at Los Angeles Theatre Works.
The new season performed live at Los Angeles's Skirball Cultural Center and recorded for future broadcast will include three world premieres and works by David Mamet, Stephen Belber, Caryl Churchill, George Bernard Shaw and more.
The 31st season for L.A.T.W. (subject to change) is as follows:
A Tale of Charles Dickens (Oct. 26-30)
Janet Dulin Jones and Paul Lazarus pen this epic world premiere set in 1830's London where a young man named "Charles Dickens uncovers a dark conspiracy of arson and murder." Lazarus directs.
McReele (Nov. 9-13)
Eric Stoltz stars in the work by Stephen Belber (Tape) which follows the rise of an exonerated man's political career and the reporter who broke his story. Adam Arkin directs the west coast premiere.
Twelve Angry Men (Nov. 30-Dec. 4)
Richard Masur directs a cast that includes Hector Elizondo, Robert Foxworth, Kevin Kilner, Armin Shimerman and Richard Kind as volatile jurors who must decide the fate of a teenager accused of killing his father in the Reginald Rose classic drama.
Top Girls (Jan. 11-15, 2006)
Caryl Churchill's 1980's England-set work finds a new managing director of an employment agency who "discovers that life above the glass ceiling is not all it’s cracked up to be." Rosalind Ayres directs.
Arms and the Man (Feb. 1-5, 2006)
Anne Heche and Jeremy Sisto headline the George Bernard Shaw work about a soldier who "carries sweets instead of ammunition" and the "young woman who unexpectedly gives him refuge." Brendon Fox directs.
The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial (March 1-5, 2006)
L.A.T.W.'s national touring production ends its 23-city jaunt at the Skirball, with a cast that includes Edward Asner, James Cromwell, Mike Farrell, Sharon Gless, Harry Groener, Francis Guinan, Jerry Hardin, John de Lancie and Michael Learned. Gordon Hunt directs the company's commissioned docudrama by Peter Goodchild which draws "from actual transcripts of the infamous Scopes Trial about the right to teach Darwin's theory of evolution in the classroom."
Romance (April 5-9, 2006)
Atlantic Theatre Company artistic director Neil Pepe stages the David Mamet work "that hilariously skewers everything from sexuality to the justice system." Bob Balaban, William H. Macy and Ed O’Neill star.
Fired Again (May 3-7, 2006)
Actress Annabelle Gurwitch returns with the world premiere followup to her Fired which employs more "tales of jobs gone wrong by fellow show business veterans" with a revolving cast to feature Andy Borowitz, Mo Rocca and Maxine Lapiduss.
The Real Dr. Strangelove (June 7-11, 2006)
Peter Goodchild adapts this world premiere stageplay from his book about "Edward Teller (father of the "H" Bomb) and Robert Oppenheimer, whose bomb was dropped on Hiroshima during World War II." Matt August directs.
The to-be-announced season finale (July 12-16, 2006)
L.A.T.W.'s nationally syndicated radio show "The Play's The Thing" series is performed live at the Skirball Cultural Center. All performances are recorded for future broadcast to cities including Boston, Seattle, Santa Fe as well as on XM Satellite radio. The two-hour radio broadcasts include special backstage features and interviews with actors, playwrights, and directors. The L.A. Theatre Works Audio Theatre Collection is available in bookstores, libraries, through their catalog, digitally on audible.com and on the L.A. Theatre Works website.
