Two-time Tony Award winner Cherry Jones, currently starring on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play Doubt, will host the 2005 Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre.

The ceremony will be held Oct. 25 at Tavern on the Green at 11:30 AM. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Tony winner Bill Irwin will be a presenter at the ceremony.

As previously announced, Peter Neufeld and Theater Communications Group will receive the 2005 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre. Producer Neufeld is a former theatre general manager who now works for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and TCG supports non-profit theatre in the U.S.

Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre, according to the Tony Awards website, are bestowed annually "on institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the established Tony Award categories."

The 2004 Tony Honors were awarded to the cast of the revival of Big River, veteran advertising and marketing executive Nancy Coyne, restaurateurs Frances and Harry Edelstein and Vincent Sardi Jr. and theatrical photographer Martha Swope.

The 2006 Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on CBS-TV on June 11, 2006.
