The magical flying car in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is earth-bound. The show will play its final performance on Broadway on Dec. 31, producers announced Nov. 2.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which is billed as a "fantasmagorical stage musical," officially opened at the newly renamed Hilton Theatre April 28 to mixed reviews. Previews for the production, based on the novel and film of the same name, began March 27.

It will have played 34 previews and 285 regular performances.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang originated in the West End in 2002. The original Broadway company starred Raul Esparza as Caractacus Potts, Erin Dilly as Truly Scrumptious, Philip Bosco as Grandpa Potts, Marc Kudisch (currently in See What I Wanna See Off-Broadway) as Baron Bomburst, Jan Maxwell as Baroness Bomburst, Chip Zien as Goran, Robert Sella as Boris, Kevin Cahoon as the Childcatcher and Frank Raiter as the Toymaker. The children were played by Henry Hodges (as Jeremy) and Ellen Marlow (as Jemima).

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang features music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. Song titles include "Truly Scrumptious," "Toot Sweets," "Hushabye Mountain" and the Oscar-nominated title song "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

Adrian Noble directed with musical staging by Gillian Lynne, sets and costumes by Anthony Ward, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound design by Andrew Bruce, orchestrations and dance arrangements by Chris Walker, musical supervision by Robert Scott and musical direction by Kristen Blodgette. Jeremy Sams adapted the show — which boasts a flying car — for the stage.

Tickets for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are available by calling Ticketmaster at (212) 307-4100 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
