Blythe's Spirit — Honoring Tony Winner Danner — Set for Dec. 5

By Andrew Gans
17 Nov 2005

"Oz" creator Tom Fontana and Spamalot's Hank Azaria will emcee the Williamstown Theatre Festival's Blythe's Spirit, an evening honoring Tony Award winner Blythe Danner.

The gala tribute, which will be held Dec. 5 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, will include entertainment by Williamstown artistic director Roger Rees as well as Dick Cavett and Carol Woods. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6:30 PM followed by dinner at 7:30 PM.

In a statement artistic director Rees said, "In celebrating Blythe's contribution to the arts, we celebrate not only one of the foremost actors of her generation but also, for the Williamstown Theatre Festival, a link to our glorious past and a shinning beacon towards a wonderful future."

Blythe Danner received a Tony Award for her performance in Butterflies Are Free and was Tony-nominated for her work in A Streetcar Named Desire, Betrayal and Follies. She has appeared in over 27 productions at Williamstown Theatre Festival in the past two decades, including The Seagull with daughter Gwyneth Paltrow and Tonight at 8:30. Danner's film credits include "1776," "The Great Santini," "The Prince of Tides," "Mr. & Mrs. Bridge," "Brighton Beach Memoirs," "Meet the Parents," "Meet the Fockers" and "Sylvia." The actress currently plays Marilyn Truman on "Will and Grace," and she won an Emmy Award for her role as Isabelle "Izzy" Huffstodt on the Showtime series “Huff.”

The Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers is located in Manhattan at 811 Seventh Avenue. Tickets, beginning at $350, are available by calling (413) 458-3200.
