"Rent" Film Nominated for Four Satellite Awards

The Satellite Awards honor film and television productions in 36 categories. This year's nominees, announced Dec. 1, include four nominations for the Chris Columbus-directed film of Jonathan Larson's "Rent."
The "Rent" nominations include Actress in a Supporting Role, Comedy or Musical (for Rosario Dawson), Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical ("Rent"), Director (Chris Columbus) and Sound Mixing and Editing (Rob Cavallo and Sally Boldt). "Rent" will vie for the Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical in a category that also includes "Shopgirl," "Hustle & Flow," "Happy Endings," "Walk the Line" and "Kung Fu Hustle."
The film of "Rent" — which hit movie theatres across the country Nov. 23 — stars Adam Pascal (as Roger Davis), Anthony Rapp (as Mark Cohen), Rosario Dawson (as Mimi), Taye Diggs (as Benjamin "Benny" Coffin III), Wilson Jermaine Heredia (as Angel Schunard), Jesse L. Martin (as Thomas B. "Thom" Collins), Idina Menzel (as Maureen Johnson) and Tracie Thoms (as Joanne Jefferson).
Rent updates Puccini's La Bohème to the East Village of the late 1990s, with artists and lovers struggling to connect in a world that is chaotic, shallow and tinged with disease. The late Larson wrote Rent's book, music and lyrics. The 1996 Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical continues at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City.
