Each year when the cold north wind begins to descend on New York City and snowflakes start to fill the air, the gypsies of Broadway come together to see who will be crowned this season’s Gypsy of the Year. The current season's competition began on Dec. 5.

One of many charity events put on through the theatrical season by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the Gypsy of the Year competition pits the chorus members of Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals up against one another in a fun-loving competition to raise money for BC/EFA's numerous on-going projects.

At left, Sweeney Todd star Michael Cerveris leads his show’s contigent, while Beauty and the Beast and Fiddler on the Roof do their best to spoil the demon barber’s chances at winning. Below, representatives from The Great American Trailer Park Musical present their number, while chorus members from all of the shows are seen during the opening number at the Gypsy of the Year Competition, held at the Neil Simon Theatre on West 52nd Street in New York City.
