Faber and Faber to Publish Plays by Guirgis and Rapp in 2006

Faber and Faber will publish the plays The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen Adly Guirgis and Red Light Winter by Adam Rapp.

The releases are expected in 2006. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot premiered Feb. 8-April 3, 2005, in New York. The LAByrinth Theatre Company staging played at The Public Theater. Philip Seymour Hoffman directed. Sam Rockwell and Eric Bogosian starred in the story — set mainly in a near-Purgatory courtroom — of a lawyer who appeals the case of God and the Kingdom of Heaven vs. Judas Iscariot.

Longtime LAByrinth patriot Guirgis also penned Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train; In Arabia, We'd All Be Kings and Our Lady of 121st Street, all directed by Hoffman for the Off-Broadway troupe.

Red Light Winter, the new play by the prolific playwright Adam Rapp, had an acclaimed run at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in early 2005. It will have its New York debut at the Barrow Street Theatre Jan. 20, 2006. The show will feature the original Steppenwolf cast: Christopher Denham, Lisa Joyce and Gary Wilmes. Rapp directs his own work.

In the play, "college friends Davis (Wilmes) and Matt ( Denham) spend a wild, unforgettable evening in Amsterdam's Red Light District with a beautiful young prostitute, Christina (Joyce).  They find that their lives have changed forever when their bizarre love triangle plays out in unexpected ways a year later in the East Village."

    Rapp is the author of Nocturne, Stone Cold Dead Serious, Finer Noble Gases, Gompers and Faster.

The Guirgis work will reach stores Jan. 5, 2006. The Rapp play will follow on Feb. 9. Each is $13.
