No one quite knew what was to become of the Broadway-bound revival of Sweet Charity when star Christina Applegate broke her foot during an out of town try-out on March 11.

Broadway multi-talent Charlotte D’Amboise (Chicago) stepped into the lead character’s shoes until Applegate recovered. Then, after announcing on March 25 that the show would close two days later in Boston before reaching the Great White Way, producers Barry and Fran Weissler reversed course and on March 30 announced that the production would forge ahead, with D’Amboise continuing on while Applegate mended in anticipation of her Broadway debut. The show officially opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on May 4.
