Schreiber Wooed for Upcoming The Homecoming Broadway Revival

Liev Schreiber — who earned a Tony Award for last season's Glengarry Glen Ross — is being courted for a role in the planned Broadway revival of Harold Pinter's The Homecoming, Playbill.com has learned.

Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel — the producing team behind Glengarry Glen Ross and the upcoming revival of The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial — plan on bringing the work back to Broadway next season. No director or cast has been officially announced for the production, and press spokespersons could not confirm the involvement of Schreiber.

Playbill.com recently reported that the actor will play Macbeth in Central Park this summer. The Homecoming is expected for the 2006-2007 season.

Set in an old home in North London, the drama follows the return of the eldest son and his wife from America to his two brothers, his father and uncle. The introduction of a woman into this testosterone-heavy abode causes a stirring and shocking turn of events.

First presented in London by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1965, The Homecoming reached Broadway's Music Box Theatre in 1967 and earned four Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actor (Paul Rogers), Best Featured Actor (Ian Holm) and Best Direction (Peter Hall).

Pinter, who recently garnered the Nobel Prize for Literature, is known for his plays The Birthday Party, The Caretaker, No Man's Land and Betrayal. His Celebration and The Room recently played Off-Broadway at the Atlantic Theatre Company.

Schreiber took home the Tony for his turn as Richard Roma in the Tony Award winning revival of David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize winner Glengarry Glen Ross. He is slated to star in Macbeth for The Public Theatre's "Shakespeare in the Park" this summer, following up his Henry V turn in 2003. Other credits include Harold Pinter's Betrayal, Neil LaBute's The Mercy Seat and Othello. A co-star in the"Lackawanna Blues" HBO film, he has also appeared on film in the "Scream" trilogy, "The Manchurian Candidate" remake, "Jakob the Liar," "Kate & Leopold" and on television in "RKO 281," "Hitler: The Rise of Evil" and "Spinning Boris." He made his directorial debut with "Everything Is Illuminated" — which he also adapted.
