Scott, O'Hare, Sills, White More Slated for Huntington's "Breaking Ground Fest" Readings

Campbell Scott, Denis O'Hare, Douglas Sills, Julie White and Michael T. Weiss are among the stars slated for The Huntington Theatre Company's 2006 "Breaking Ground Festival" of new play readings.

The event runs April 6-9 at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. A new musical is included with new plays by Theresa Rebeck, Noah Haidle, and Ronan Noone.

The Festival lineup is as follows:

  • Kind Hearts and Coronets (April 6, 7:30 PM)
    Book by Robert L. Freedman; music by Steven Lutvak; lyrics by Freedman and Lutvak
    Douglas Sills (The Scarlet Pimpernel) stars in the new musical based on the Robert Hamer 1949 film of the same name which a royal (seventh in line to the family Dukedom) plots his way to reach his title in order to win the love of a lady.

  • Persephone (April 7, 8 PM)
    by Noah Haidle featuring Julie White, Jeremiah Kissel and Mimi Leiber
    White (The Little Dog Laughed, Bad Dates) and recent The Sisters Rosensweig stars appear in this tale of a modern day sculptor who is carving out his long lost love, the Greek goddess Demeter.

  • Property (April 8, 8 PM)
    by Valerie Martin featuring Michael T. Weiss, Pamela Gray and Will LeBow
    Peter Schneider directs the scribe's tale based on her 2003 novel about a white woman and her black chambermaid who are linked by slavery and one man. Weiss (Les Liaisons Dangereuses, "The Pretender") stars.

  • The Atheist (April 9, 2 PM)
    by Ronan Noone featuring Campbell Scott
    Recent "The Dying Gaul" star Scott appears in the work about a journalist with bad intentions who uncovers a mayor's dirty secret.

  • Mauritius (April 9, 7 PM)
    by Theresa Rebeck featuring Denis O'Hare
    Justin Waldman directs the Tony Award-winning actor recently seen in Sweet Charity and Assassins about a woman who inherits her dead mothers debt and old stamps, the latter proves to be very desirable to many philatelists.

    The 2006 "Breaking Ground Festival," at the Calderwood Pavilion, 527 Tremont Street (between Clarendon and Berkeley St.) in Boston, MA is free (a suggested donation of $10 per person) but seating is limited and reservations are highly recommended.
