It's Been a Year of Doubt on Broadway, March 31

Doubt, the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning play by John Patrick Shanley, celebrates its first year anniversary on Broadway March 31.

Shanley's 90-minute play about a steely nun who accuses a priest of sexual misconduct with a student began at Manhattan Theatre Club in fall 2004 and jumped to Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre March 9, 2005. It opened March 31.

A cast change has not prevented audiences from arguing about the nun's groundless accusation, her certainty and the possibility that she might be wrong (or right, for that matter). Adriane Lenox, who won a Best Featured Actress Tony Award for playing the mother of the involved student, is the only remaining member of the original cast.

Doubt also stars Eileen Atkins (Sister Aloysius), Ron Eldard (Father Flynn) and Jena Malone (Sister James).

Here's how the producers bill Doubt: "Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, Doubt is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision. Should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues…even if she's not entirely certain of the truth?"

Director Doug Hughes won a 2005 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play.

Doubt will be launched on a 24-city national tour in September 2006. Cherry Jones, who won a Tony Award for her performance as Sister Aloysius, will recreate her role for the first six months of the tour.

Doubt is produced by Carole Shorenstein Hays, MTC Productions Inc. (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer), Roger Berlind and Scott Rudin.

Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 PM, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM, and Sunday at 3 PM. Tickets are available by calling Telecharge.com at (212) 239-6200.
