A Night in November Extends Second Time at Irish Arts Center

By Robert Simonson
03 Apr 2006

Marie Jones' one-person play, A Night in November, now enjoying a return visit Off-Broadway at the Irish Arts Center, has extended its run a second time.

Previously, the production extended a single week from April 2 to April 9. It opened on March 14. Now, the engagement has been lengthened to April 16.

The play previously ran at the Irish Arts Center in early 1998, and then again later that year at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre on W. 42nd Street. It was performed by Dan Gordon and directed by Pamela Brighton. It was first staged by DubbelJoint Productions in Belfast, Ireland.

This time around Tim Byron Owen directs Marty Maguire in the role of Kenneth McAllister, an East Belfast Protestant (the region is primarily Catholic), who is transformed by his own bigotry. The play takes place on the night of the 1994 World Cup soccer game between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland—an event which profoundly changes McCallister.

Maguire has played the part at the Celtic Arts Center and Falcon Theatre in Los Angeles, The Tricycle Theatre in London, The Gilded Balloon in Edinburgh and the Gaiety Theatre and Liberty Hall in Dublin.

Irish Arts Center presents the production in association with Georganne Aldrich Heller.

Ticket prices range $35-$40 and are available by calling SmartTix at (212) 868-4444 or www.smarttix.com.
