J.A.P. Chronicles, the Musical, written, composed and performed by Isabel Rose, officially opens at the Perry Street Theatre May 3. Previews began April 17.

Based on Rose's novel "The J.A.P. Chronicles" (DoubleDay), the production features direction by Carl Andress and will play a limited engagement through May 28.

In the musical, "six former bunkmates reunite at Willow Lake Camp's 100th anniversary. Ali Cohen, the former 'ugly duckling' turned self-made swan, secretly hopes her teenage tormentors have grown into adult losers. As each woman steps into focus, however, she discovers that things are not quite so simple. Her expectations hilariously undermined, Ali reconsiders her subjects (not to mention herself) as whole, flawed and, finally, very human beings." Rose portrays all six characters.

The creative team for J.A.P. Chronicles comprises Jesse Vargas (musical direction, arrangements and orchestrations), Denis Jones (musical staging), Michael Anania (scenic design), Dona Granata (costume design), Kirk Bookman (lighting design), Ryan Powers (sound design) and Julian Fleisher (creative consultant).

About the show, creator-actor Rose said in a statement, "I have great affection for these women and I couldn't wait to bring them to life on stage. People always ask me if I'm a J.A.P. and my answer is, sure. I'm a Jewish American Powerhouse! I hope that by adapting my book, this story of acceptance and empowerment can continue to reach audiences. More than anything, I want to keep breaking down the stereotype of the J.A.P. and to celebrate the individual."

Isabel Rose starred as Tess Kittridge in the national tour of Six Degrees of Separation. Her other theatre credits include Beau Jest, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Marat Sade and Threepenny Opera. Doubleday will release the paperback version of "The J.A.P. Chronicles," in May.

J.A.P. Chronicles, the Musical plays Mondays, Wednesday-Saturdays at 8 PM with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM.

The Perry Street Theatre is located in Manhattan at 31 Perry Street. Tickets, priced $50 and $60, are available by calling (212) 868-4444 or by visiting www.smarttix.com. For more information go to www.japchroniclesthemusical.com.
