Lay-Over: LaBute's Some Girl(s) Extends Before Off-Broadway Start

MCC Theatre's upcoming American premiere of Neil LaBute's Some Girl(s) — starring Eric McCormack, Fran Drescher, Judy Reyes, Brooke Smith and Maura Tierney has extended its run prior to its first preview.
Jo Bonney (On the Mountain, Living Out) will direct the work to debut May 17 and open June 8 at Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre. Originally slated to run through June 24, the show now extends two weeks through July 8.
In LaBute's exposé of the modern male, Some Girl(s), a blossoming writer is on the verge of matrimony when he comes down with a bad case of cold feet. So much so, he not only calls up old girlfriends, he hops flights across the country to see them.
McCormack stars as the man opposite Tierney as the Los Angeles-based doctor Bobbi, Smith as Seattle housewife Sam, Reyes as a Chicago artist Tyler and Drescher as Boston professor Lindsay.
Drescher recently returned to TV in "Living With Fran" following her two-time Emmy Award nominated turn as Miss Fine on the series "The Nanny." On stage, she made her debut in Pasadena Playhouse's world premiere of Rug Merchants of Chaos and appeared in the Off-Broadway run of The Exonerated. Known for her film work, she has been seen in "This is Spinal Tap," "Beautician and The Beast," "Jack," "Cadillac Man" and "Picking Up the Pieces."
Reyes — known for her current role as Nurse Carla Espinosa on "Scrubs" — last appeared on stage in the LAByrinth Theatre Company's Guinea Pig Solo. The Bronx native actress has also been seen in "Jack and His Friends," "Bringing Out the Dead," "Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God, Be Back at Five" and "Washington Heights."
Smith's stage credits include Stop Kiss, Andre Gregory's Uncle Vanya, Walking the Dead and The Triumph of Love. She is known for her turn as the young captive in "The Silence of the Lambs" and earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Louis Malle's "Vanya on 42nd Street." Other work includes "The Night We Never Met," "Mr. Wonderful," "Trees Lounge," "Random Hearts," "Melinda and Melinda" and "In Her Shoes."
Tierney — who earned an Emmy Award nomination for her turn as Abby Lockhart on "ER" — has appeared in such films as "Primary Colors," "Welcome to Mooseport," "Liar, Liar," "Instinct," "Forces of Nature" and "Scotland PA" — an updated film take on Macbeth. The actress also known for her TV work on "NewsRadio" has appeared on stage in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, The Bald Soprano, Baby with Bathwater, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and Talking With.
McCormack, known for his Emmy Award-winning turn as the title character of "Will & Grace," last appeared on the New York boards in the Broadway revival of The Music Man. The Stratford Shakespearean Festival veteran also made a cameo in The Play What I Wrote and appeared in Canadian productions of Biloxi Blues, Salt Water Moon, Burn This and The Passion of Dracula.
Another TV star, David Schwimmer, headed the London premiere of the work May 2005 opposite Saffron Burrows, Lesley Manville, Sara Powell and Catherine Tate at the Gielgud Theatre. The "Friends" star is already on the boards making his Broadway debut in the revival of Herman Wouk's The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. (He told Playbill.com he will direct the Los Angeles debut of the work.)
