Thornhill, Simpson, Galloway, Burt and More to Join Shaddow for London Show Boat

Principal casting is nearly complete for the upcoming production of Show Boat at London's Royal Albert Hall.
The limited engagement, which will play June 10-25, will be directed by Francesca Zambello and will mark the first time a fully staged musical has been presented in the round at the famed hall.
Joining the previously announced Elena Shaddow as Magnolia will be Angela Simpson as Queenie, Rebecca Thornhill as Julie, Jenny Galloway as Parthy Ann Hawkes, David Burt as Captain Andy, John Owen Jones as Gaylord Ravenal and Mark Coles as Joe. The company will also feature Emma Dodd as Ellie, Steve Elias as Frank, Steve Deveraux as Sheriff Vallon/Radio Man, Seann Alderking as Jake, Sarah Ingram as the Landlady, Susie Fenwick as Mother Superior, Hugh Futcher as Windy, Jarrod Carland as Steve and Gareth Snook as Pete/Backwoodsman.
The Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II musical is being produced by Raymond Gubbay in collaboration with The Royal Albert Hall and will feature set design by Peter J. Davison.
The score, which includes such standards as "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" and "Only Make Believe," will be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under David Charles Abell’s musical direction. The creative team also includes costume designer Sue Willmington, choreographer Arthur Pita and lighting designer Andrew Bridge.
Show Boat premiered on Broadway on Dec. 27, 1927, and, with its dramatic story line based on Edna Ferber’s novel, the musical was the first to tackle such weighty issues as racial prejudice, poverty and abandonment. Show Boat is considered to be the mother of the modern musical.
