Mary Pat Gleason Begins Stopping Traffic Off-Broadway May 24

By Ernio Hernandez
24 May 2006

Mary Pat Gleason begins her solo odyssey Stopping Traffic May 24 with the help of director Lonny Price at Off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre.

Written and performed by screen actress Gleason, the work (which previously went by the title Between Seconds) will open June 7 for a run at the downtown venue through June 25.

Stopping Traffic follows the real-life journey of the character actress' career as she "candidly relives this true-story about her life-long experiences with bipolar disorder," according to show materials. The work will take audiences "on a tour of Hollywood, New York and the human heart."

Gleason has numerous film credits including "Soapdish," "Basic Instinct," "Lorenzo's Oil," "13 Going on 30," "A Cinderella Story" and "The Island." She has also appeared in guest spots on such television shows as "Desperate Housewives," "Will & Grace," "Sex and the City" and "Malcolm in the Middle."

Price — who began his career as an actor — turned to work off stage directed Broadway's 'Master Harold'...and the boys and Urban Cowboy as well as Visiting Mr. Green, Grown Ups, The Rothschilds, Juno and the Ed Kleban musical A Class Act. He also co-wrote and starred in the latter. As an actor, he appeared in Merrily We Roll Along, Burn This, 'Master Harold'...and the boys and as the hotel owner's nerdy grandson in the film "Dirty Dancing."

The Stopping Trafficdesign team features Neil Patel (set), Tracy Christensen (costume), David Weiner (lighting) and Obadiah Eaves (sound).

Tickets for shows at the Vineyard Theatre, 108 East 15 St. can be reserved by calling (212) 353-0303 or online at www.vineyardtheatre.org.
