Originally performed in the Czech Republic, the sung through, rock-infused hamlet the musical (whose title is not capitalized) has been "completely revised" by creator Janek Ledecky (book and music), George Harvilla (lyrics) and Vince Parrillo (lyrics). The presentation April 26 is a 70-minute cutting of the show.
The melancholy Dane of the Shakespeare tale is Kushnier (Rent, Footloose), Maxwell (Sixteen Wounded) is Gertrude, Benjamin (Chicago) is Polonius, Tower (The Lion King) is Horatio.
Directed by Robert Johanson, former longtime artistic director of Paper Mill Playhouse, the cast also includes Jennifer Blood (Ophelia), Joel Briel, Dasha, Ed Dixon (Gravedigger/Ghost/Player King), Ellen Dominos, Kerry Flanagan, Osborn Focht, Michael Halling (Laertes), Burke Moses (King Claudius) and Clint Morris.
The new musical will play the June Havoc Theatre in the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex at 312 West 36th Street on the First Floor. Free tickets must be reserved through SmartTix at (212) 868-4444.
