Stage and screen actress Alfre Woodard, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in "Cross Creek," will star opposite Katherine Heigl in NBC's drama pilot "State Of Affairs," according to Deadline.com.
Directed by Joe Carnahan and produced by Universal TV, "State Of Affairs" will star Heigl ("Grey's Anatomy") as a CIA attaché who counsels the president (Woodard) on high-stakes incidents around the world.
Director Carnahan also pens the script alongside Alex Hawley. Heigl, Carnahan, Hawley, Bob Simonds, Henry Crumpton and Julia Franz are executive producers.
Woodard, who received an Emmy nomination for her performance in Lifetime's "Steel Magnolias," has been seen on Broadway in Me and Bessie and Drowning Crow.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
